ACPPA Appoints New President
January 2008
Reston, Va. The American Concrete Pressure Pipe Association (ACPPA) named Richard E. "Rick" Lawhun, P.E. president and chief executive officer. Lawhun has more than 25 years experience with demonstrated leadership in engineering and association management. Prior to joining ACPPA, he served as vice president of member benefits for the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He also served in a variety of staff leadership roles at the American Society of Civil Engineers, including manager of technical activities, senior manager of membership development and director of the Construction Institute. Early in his career, Lawhun managed an engineering department at Dewberry & Davis, an ENR Top 50 design firm.
"We are extremely pleased to have Rick as our new president," noted ACPPA Chair Clifford Hahne, president of Hanson Pipe & Precast, South Central Region. "He has a unique set of skills and experience that will serve ACPPA well as we seek to develop our strategic plan and increase the effectiveness of the organization."
Asked why he was drawn to ACPPA, Lawhun stated, "This is a challenging opportunity to be part of an organization that is seeking to increase its visibility and better serve its members. I am honored to have been selected and look forward to working with the Board of Direction in leading ACPPA into a promising future."
A licensed professional engineer in Virginia and Maryland, Lawhun is an alumnus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
Lawhun succeeds David P. Prosser, P.E., who retired as ACPPA's president after more than 15 years of dedicated service.
