Corrosion Protection

External Protection of Concrete Cylinder Pipe
Concrete cylinder pipe provides trouble-free service when properly installed in most environmental conditions. Corrosion protection is provided to the embedded steel elements of the pipe by the high alkalinity of hydrated portland cement, which has a pH in the range of 12.5 to 13.5. At that pH a passivating oxide film forms and is maintained on embedded steel surfaces, which precludes the possibility of electrochemical corrosion, except in adverse environments.
